Artsy Jock is a nickname someone gave me a number of years ago. It struck a chord with me as I realized that it coined exactly where I came from…an Artsy & a Jock.
My mom Sandi is the “Artsy”. She was a Art Teacher. She also was a great athlete. She was on the diving team at University of Toronto no less. She always did everything with finesse and style. Whether water skiing, taking off on one ski from the dock or beach or down hill skiing she always made it look effortless fluid and cool.
I can’t think of a prettier front crawl stroke or paddle in a canoe then my mom’s. I have her to thank for showing me that you can achieve anything with style.
My dad Jim is the “Jock” through and through. He was on the varsity basketball & football teams at Queen’s University. He had a home run distance record for hard ball in Orillia for many years. He was a natural at most sports he took up.
An avid skier all his life he gave it up at 80 for golf. A natural PE teacher because he was a born leader he became a principal but would never give up coaching girls basketball. I have him to thank for my many lessons in competition that helped me survive the business world.
So the Artsy Jock was born. I’m not sure if it was the Artist or the Jock in me that drove me to try so many careers along the way. I know I am competitive but the artist always shows up to add her flair to the corporate boredom.
I have been in business for just about everything from People (I owned my own Personnel Agency in Toronto), Drugs (Pharmaceutical Rep), Sports Equip (Sports Rep), Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds (Stock Broker & Banker), Mortgages, and Real Estate (Realtor) – still am.
I worked for a Flight School & Charters company for a small airline when I was working on my Commercial Pilot Licence mainly flying float planes. I was a High School Physed and Science Teacher. I was a Waitress, a Life Guard and a Clown for Clown-O-Grams ;).
Yes in one lifetime. No I’m not 100. Why? … I have no clue why. My sister says I’m ADD. She’s probably right ;).
I love to play in the outdoors. I ski, bike, hike, paddle, fly airplanes, ride motorcycles in the beautiful outdoors. I live in the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Squamish, BC. I traveled & lived all over Canada. I love this country.
I started the Artsy Jock multimedia site where I will take you on adventures with me and we will meet courageous women with brave stories. I hope that these productions get your own mojo revved up to get you out of your comfort zone chasing your own dreams. So gear up and hop on. This is going to be a fun ride! Vroom….
